Dear UCEA, We are waiting to greet you in Los Angeles! After what have been a difficult few weeks, I am eager for us come together as a community to learn, share, support, and enjoy each other’s company.
This Spotlight is full of information on the 2024 Convention. After careful planning by our UCEAwesome Convention Planning Committee led by Karen Beard, I am confident that there is something for everyone!
One important request for all of you, we are looking for faculty to mentor early career scholars and graduate students. In an effort to make it easier for you to volunteer, we put all our mentoring opportunities for current programs into one form. Please take a few minutes to look at the programs available for early career scholars and graduate students and volunteer using the Mentoring Service Opportunity form! Thank you in advance.

The Researcher Development Program, in conjunction with the AERA Leadership for School Improvement Special Interest Group (LSI SIG), is seeking mentors for the Researcher Development Program (RDP) 2024-25 cohort. The Researcher Development Program is an initiative aimed at providing graduate students with research-focused mentorship and networking opportunities with faculty members outside their institution. With over 40 applicants to be a mentee, more faculty mentors are needed. Read the Call for Mentors.

Interested in developing equity-centered principals? Join us at this year’s UCEA-Wallace Foundation Symposium. This session will explore the role of equity and culturally responsive school leadership across the professional trajectory of school principals. Presenters Mark Anthony Gooden and Noelle Witherspoon Arnold will highlight their recent report with a discussion facilitated by Angel Miles Nash.

| Mentoring Workshop to Support Early-Career Faculty Success

The Educational Leadership and Policy Mentoring Program (ELPMP) is a national mentoring program that pairs mentees with mentors in the fields of educational leadership and policy. This year-long mentoring program is open for new mentees to join this supportive program. We invite early-career scholars interested in participating to join us at this pre-convention workshop. This will be an interactive workshop with breakout groups led by ELPMP coordinators focusing on best practices for research, teaching, and service on the way to tenure and promotion for early-career scholars. We also invite mentors who have participated in the ELPMP to join us once again to meet potential mentees. Let's continue to grow the future of our field together!
