Profile: Janette Mariscal
Dra. Mariscal examines the connection between culture, language, and college knowledge, as it relates to college framing among Latinx parents with elementary school-aged children. Her work is organized into the role of institutions, parents, families and underserved groups through an asset-based lens to better understand the collective decision making of communities. She also examines funds of knowledge, community cultural wealth, and critical agency in exploring university programs and community capacity building around issues of access. She explores the ways in which structures of inequality in higher education institutions are embedded in the framing and funding of various sorts of offices and programs.
