I am a faculty member in Education Policy & Urban Education at the University of Maryland, College Park. I was recently visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University School of Education and the Center for the Social Organization of Schools (Spring 2020). I have also been a professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2017-2020). I teach graduate courses in education policy, immigration and education, social inequality, and research methodology. My research focuses on urban education, racial and ethnic identity formation in schools, youth activism, and undocumented immigrant youth experiences in society and schools. I have teaching experience at the secondary (English Education and ESL, grades 7-12) and post-secondary level. I have taught in urban schools in New York City and Chicago. I also have international teaching experience. I have served in leadership roles for the American Educational Research Association (AERA), American Educational Studies Association (AESA), and the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES). I currently serve on the Executive Council for AESA and on Editorial Boards for Educational Studies and Policy Futures in Education.
