Profile: Jaime Erin Welborn
Jaime E. Welborn, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at Saint Louis University, is the director of the Building Leadership for Change through School Immersion Program, a grant program awarded to the School of Education from the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Education. In this program, Dr. Welborn teaches courses in multi-tiered systems of support, cultivating school culture, parent and community partnerships, and Culturally Proficient leadership.
Before coming to SLU, Dr. Welborn served as an elementary school assistant principal in the Rockwood School District in West St. Louis County, and as a middle school mathematics and language arts teacher and elementary school teacher in rural and suburban public schools in Illinois and Missouri. Dr. Welborn has presented locally and nationally on cultural competence and Culturally Proficient leadership at Harvard and at the Cultural Proficiency Institute, sponsored by Corwin, in California. In addition, Dr. Welborn, a Certified Training Associate for The Center for Culturally Proficient Educational Practice, serves as a consultant in various school districts throughout the St. Louis region. Her experiences in education over the past thirteen years have been in working with diverse populations, and her work and other life experiences have contributed to her passion in studying opportunity and achievement gaps, educational equity, social justice, and Culturally Proficient Leadership.
