Profile: Shannon R. Waite
Shannon R. Waite, Ed.D. is an assistant professor in the department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at Howard University. She is a scholar activist who utilizes critical race theory to analyze systems, policies, and practices in PreK-12 education. Her research interests include topics on antiracist culturally responsive school leadership, developing critically conscious educational leaders, diversity recruitment and pipeline initiatives, and examining hypersegregation and its connection to the school-to-prison pipeline. She began her career in education in 2003 as a NYC Teaching Fellow and worked in various positions in the NYC Department of Education (NYCDOE). Dr. Waite is a former Mayoral appointee to the Panel for Educational Policy (PEP) which is the governing body of NYC Public Schools and former Trustee on the Board of Education Retirement System (BERS).
