Dear UCEA,
At the end of a tumultuous February, I am grateful to our community for your persistence, insistence, and resilience. Whatever the news and articles, through all the meetings, amid rising anxieties and fears, your commitment to our shared values and vision of transforming of schools and school communities to create equitable, ethical, and socially just outcomes for each child, has not wavered. I am inspired by the number of times someone has asked, “How can I help? What can I do?” Many are using their skills in service to educational leaders and school communities – in some ways returning to the very reason we became scholars. We will continue to do the work.
To that end, I am happy to share our Winter Review that came out earlier this week and this month’s Spotlight. Both contain information about work happening in UCEA, as well as policy and research contexts outside of UCEA. I hope you take some time to read both.
Lastly, we are deep in planning for #UCEAatAERA in April. We are happy to welcome all our Clark and Jackson Scholars on April 22 and 23, respectively. I hope to see you at the Division A Business meeting on Thursday, April 24 at 7:15 in the Colorado Convention Center, Mile High Ballroom (1EF). I am really looking forward to seeing you all at the Joint Reception with Divisions A and L, and SAGE Publishers, immediately afterwards!
Do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas of how UCEA can strengthen its efforts.
Adelante UCEA, |

Since Inauguration Day, the Trump Administration has issued numerous executive orders and executive actions that will impact the work of PK-20 educational institutions. Several higher education and civil rights groups have filed lawsuits. You can follow these executive orders through trackers from NBCNews, CNN, and Bloomberg News, and this tracker from Hechinger Report specifically follows education-related executive actions. You can follow the progress of litigation through trackers on Lawfare and U.S. News & World Report.
|
|
Amidst this flurry of activity, the White House has released very limited information about the scope and impact of these executive actions. This maelstrom has left schools and institutions across the PK-20 system struggling to assess funding and compliance implications.

UCEA proudly hosts three of the leading journals in educational leadership and administration. Founded in 1965, Educational Administration Quarterly continues to shape the field in meaningful and substantive ways through the innovative, diverse, and increasingly global voices published there. Since 1998 the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership has provided the field with real-life problems in PK-12 for faculty and students to learn from together. In 2006 the Journal of Research on Leadership Education focuses clearly on strengthening leadership preparation through research into teaching, learning, and impact on leader practice.
